Friends of Linnaeus Arboretum at Gustavus Adolphus College will host a Summer Solstice Garden Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 22. The tour will begin and end at the Linnaeus Arboretum in St. Peter with stops scheduled in New Ulm, Minn., at the August Schell Brewery, Museum, and Gardens and the Gigi and Scott Rysdahl Residence.
Van service from Linnaeus Arborteum will leave at 10:15 a.m. for the August Schell Brewery. A Victorian-style garden lies in front of the Schell Mansion and showcases a bright and colorful array of annuals and perennials, as well as a rose garden. Next to the garden is the Schell Brewery Museum and a deer park where deer and peacocks run wild.
After a picnic lunch in German Park, the tour will continue on to the Rysdahl residence where Gigi and Scott Rysdahl have developed seven different gardens. Upon return to St. Peter, there will be a mid-afternoon reception and guided tours of the Linnaeus Arboretum and the Melva Lind Interpretive Center. Refreshments and live music will be provided.
Cost for the garden tour is $39 for members of Friends of Linnaeus Arboretum and $49 for non-members. Reservations should be made by Tuesday, June 17 and can be done so by contacting Shirley Mellema at 507-933-6181 or arboretum@gustavus.edu.
