Gustavus Adolphus College hosted its 19th annual Honor Band Festival Monday, Nov. 5. The festival concert, conducted by Douglas Nimmo, featured the talents of more than 100 high school musicians from Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and South Dakota.
Since 1988, the Department of Music at Gustavus has invited high school band directors to nominate their best band members to participate in the Gustavus Honor Band. In the early days, the honor band consisted of students from schools from around the region of southern Minnesota and the metro area. This year’s band was one of the largest in festival history and included 105 students from 51 schools in the four state area.
Rehearsals began on Sunday, Nov. 4 followed by sectional and ensemble rehearsals and clinics throughout the day on Monday, Nov. 5, making the event of great musical and artistic significance for the participating high school musicians.
