Gustavus Adolphus College recently hired Matt Thomas as its new Media Relations Manager. Reporting to the Office of College Relations, Thomas will work with local, regional, state, and national media to convey the Gustavus story to the public. He began the position March 5, 2007.
Prior to joining Gustavus, Thomas worked as a legal reporter for Courthouse News Service — a news wire service for law firms, a sports reporter with The Lakeshore Weekly News in Wayzata, and an announcer for internet broadcasts of high school and college athletic events. Thomas is a 2000 graduate of Gustavus, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in communication studies and history. Thomas’ education and mix of experience in print, broadcast, and electronic media make him a good fit for this position.
“We are excited that Matt has joined our team,” said Gustavus Vice President for College Relations Gwendolyn Freed. “His experiences, skills, enthusiasm, and love for Gustavus will allow him to make an immediate impact on campus.”
“After a seven-year hiatus, I am thrilled to return to Gustavus to serve in this position. The college has an innovative plan in place for the future and I am excited to be a part of that plan and to help Gustavus thrive for many years to come,” Thomas said. “I look forward to developing strong relationships with all members of the media. I plan on trying to introduce myself to many of them in the coming weeks.”
Thomas is married to Molly Thomas, a 2000 graduate of Gustavus and second grade teacher in the Shakopee School District.
