The Department of Theatre and Dance at Gustavus Adolphus College is pleased to present the innovative, unique, and eclectic Choreographers’ Gallery, Nov. 17-20. This production is directed by Melissa Rolnick and features the work of six talented student choreographers as well as Minneapolis choreographer, Jennifer Glaws. Performances will be presented in Anderson Theatre Nov. 17-19 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 20 at 2 p.m.
The Choreographers’ Gallery is a fantastic opportunity facilitated by the Department of Theatre and Dance for dedicated dance students. The selected choreographers for this production include seniors Alyssa McGinty, Erin Simon, Ashley Zabel, and Renee Guittar, and juniors Rachel Johnson and Hollie Luckow. Each of these choreographers has crafted a piece for the Anderson Theatre main stage. Another student highlighted in this performance is junior Katherine Arndt, who will be performing a solo choreographed by Jennifer Glaws titled “Point of Change.”
The Department’s mission for this production is to provide mentorship and resources to enable students to create their unique artistic vision. In order to enhance the learning experience for these students, the Department has invited two professional adjudicators to give feedback to the student choreographers. Ann Mosey and Paula Mann will attend the Choreographers’ Gallery and provide an outside perspective by giving the young artists fresh insight into their work.
This captivating and diverse dance concert is intended to be a platform for creative research in both choreography and design. The Anderson Theatre, normally a thrust stage, will be configured as a proscenium stage so designers can work with side lighting and the emerging artists can create in a new environment. The Choreographers’ Gallery will have the support and technical expertise of faculty Terena Wilkens in the area of lighting and sound, and Larissa McConnell in costume design. Along with faculty designers, lighting design students from a light and sound design course taught by Wilkens will be participating in the design process.
