Gustavus Students Produce “It Gets Better” Video Posted on April 8th, 2011 by

The Gustavus Adolphus College Campus Activities Board (CAB) along with the student group Queers and Allies recently produced an “It Gets Better” video in support of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender youth and teenagers.

The It Gets Better Project started in September 2010 after a number of LGBT high school students across the nation took their own lives after being bullied in school. Syndicated columnist and author Dan Savage created a YouTube video with his partner Terry to inspire hope for young LGBT students facing harassment. Six months later, the It Gets Better Project has turned into a worldwide movement with over 10,000 user-created videos viewed more than 35 million times. The common theme among the videos is a message to LGBT youth who may be struggling with their sexuality that they are not alone and that life does indeed get better.

“In response to this national program, a group of students and other members of our campus community took the initiative to show their respect and support for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals,” said President Jack R. Ohle. “In so doing, they express the importance of the College’s core values and that Gustavus is a welcoming and inclusive place for all.”

The Gustavus video was featured on the homepage of the It Gets Better Project. That video and thousands of other submitted videos can be viewed by going to itgetsbetter.org.
