Men’s and Women’s Hockey Teams Remain Ranked in the Top 10 Posted on November 30th, 2010 by

The Gustavus men’s and women’s hockey teams are both ranked in the top 10 of the latest USCHO.com Division III polls, which were released on Monday, Nov. 29.

The women’s team is ranked fourth in the latest poll, and received one first place vote out of a possible 14. The women are currently undefeated with a 6-0-0 record, including a 4-0-0 mark in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play.

The women have outscored their opponents by a combined score of 25-2 so far this season. Sophomore forward Lindsey Hjelm currently leads the team in scoring with two goals and five assists for seven points. First-year forwards Melissa Doyle and Lisa Tuuri have both recorded three goals and three assists so far this season for six points. Junior Goaltender Danielle Justice has started all six games and has allowed only two goals, while making 93 saves.

The women’s team will play a home-and-away series with the University of St. Thomas this weekend. The two teams will play at 7 p.m. in St. Paul on Friday, Dec. 3 and then a 2 p.m. game at Don Roberts Ice Rink on Saturday, Dec. 4.

The Gustavus men’s hockey team is currently ranked sixth in the latest poll and has a record of 6-2-1 overall including a 2-1-1 mark in MIAC play. The team is being led in scoring by junior forward Ross Ring-Jarvi who has three goals and seven assists so far this season. First-year forward Adam Smyth is second on the team in scoring with four goals and five assists.

The men will also play a home-and-away series with the University of St. Thomas this weekend. The two teams will play at 7:05 p.m. at Don Roberts Ice Rink on Friday, Dec. 3 and then a 7:05 p.m. game in Mendota Heights on Saturday, Dec. 4.
