No. 8 Ranked Men’s Hockey Wins Season Opener Posted on October 30th, 2010 by

The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s hockey team recorded a 2-1 victory over Augsburg in its 2010-11 season opener on Friday, Oct. 29. The game was a non-conference contest and part of the MIAC Showcase at Fogerty Arena in Blaine, Minn.

First-year student Zach May notched the game-winning goal for the Gusties at the 1:23 mark of the third period.

Senior All-America defensemen Mitch Carlson scored the team’s other goal. Senior goaltender Josh Swartout made 33 saves to pick up the victory in the net.

The Gusties are ranked No. 8 in the USCHO.com Division III pre-season poll, but were picked to finish fourth in the MIAC coaches pre-season poll.

The Gusties will play their second game of the MIAC Showcase at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31 against St. Mary’s at Fogerty Arena. The team will open its home schedule on Friday, Nov. 5 against UW-Eau Claire.
