Peg O'Connor
Peg O’Connor, professor of philosophy and gender, women, and sexuality studies, received the 2010 Faculty Scholarly Achievement Award in early May at the College’s Honors Day Convocation.
Faculty members are nominated for the award by fellow faculty members based on professional accomplishments regarding research activities in private, public, or corporate settings; publications; presentations at scholarly meetings or conferences; and exhibits or performances.
O’Connor holds degrees from Wesleyan University and the University Minnesota. She has been the recipient of four Research, Scholarship, and Creativity grants from Gustavus along with grants from the American Philosophical Association and the University of Connecticut Humanities Institute.
She is the author of two books including Morality and our Complicated Form of Life: Feminist Wittgensteinian Metaethics and Oppression and Responsibility: A Wittgensteinian Approach to Social Practices and Moral Theory. O’Connor is also the co-editor of the books Feminist Interpretations of Ludwig Wittgenstein and Oppression, Privilege, and Resistance: Theoretical Perspectives on Racism, Sexism, and Heterosexism. Her current work in progress is taking a Wittgensteinian approach to addiction, along with several other writings and presentations.
First awarded in 1986, the Faculty Scholarly Achievement Award was reestablished in 2004 and is now announced during the annual Honors Day Convocation.
