Women’s Hockey Advances to NCAA Championship Finals Posted on March 13th, 2010 by

The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s hockey team advanced to the Division III NCAA Championship Finals on Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 victory over the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. The win means that Gustavus will host this year’s national semifinals and final on March 19-20 at Don Roberts Ice Rink.

Gustavus will take on Amherst College in one national semifinal on Friday, March 19. The other semifinal will feature Norwich University against Elmira College.

In their 2-0 quarterfinal victory over UW-River Falls, the Gusties got two goals early in the third period to break a scoreless tie.

Meagan Wanecke scored the first Gustavus goal, two minutes and 28 seconds into the third period. One minute and one second later, Nara Higano added an insurance goal for the Gusties.

Gustavus outshot River Falls 41-16 in the game. Gustavus goaltender Danielle Justice stopped all 16 shots sent her way to earn the victory.
