Men’s and Women’s Hockey Teams to Host NCAA Tournament Games Posted on March 8th, 2010 by

The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s and women’s hockey teams both received bids to their respective NCAA Tournament’s, which will begin play this week.

The Gustavus men’s hockey team earned an at-large bid into the field of 11 teams after falling 2-1 in overtime to St. Thomas in the MIAC Playoff championship game. The Gusties (19-6-2) will host St. Thomas in a first round game at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, March 10 at Don Roberts Ice Rink. The Gusties swept the regular season series with the Tommies by scores of 4-0 and 7-1.

This will be the second consecutive appearance for Gustavus in the NCAA Tournament. Last year, the Gusties advanced to the NCAA Championship game before falling to Neumann College 4-1.

The Gustavus women’s hockey team earned the automatic NCAA Tournament bid out of the MIAC by defeating St. Catherine 5-1 in the MIAC Playoff championship game.

The Gusties will host Wisconsin-River Falls in a first round game at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 13 at Don Roberts Ice Rink. This will be the ninth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance for the Gustavus women’s hockey team.
