Women’s Swimming & Diving Wins 2010 MIAC Championship Posted on February 23rd, 2010 by

The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s swimming and diving team compiled 744 points to claim the 2010 MIAC Swimming and Diving Championship on Saturday, Feb. 20 at the Aquatics Center on the Campus of the University of Minnesota.

Gustavus led after the first two days of competition, totaling 472 points entering Saturday’s races.  The Gusties scored 272 points on Saturday to take the MIAC crown.

Defending champion Carleton finished in second with 588.5 points, as St. Thomas rounded out the top three in third with 497 points.

The Gusties registered nine individual event top five finishes, four of which were event wins, on the way to their third conference title in four years.  Carrie Gundersen, Carley Mosher, Anika Erickson, and Stephanie Korba all took first in their respected events. 

Gundersen defended her crown to become the two-time MIAC Champion in the 1650 freestyle with an NCAA B qualifying time of 17:19.04.  Carley Mosher won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:03.57, making the NCAA A cut.  Anika Erickson made the NCAA B cut, winning the 200 breaststroke in 2:23.78.  Steph Korba added the final Gustavus individual event win, taking first in the 200 butterfly (2:10.49).

Dajana Vidovic placed second in the 100 freestyle with an NCAA B qualifying time of 52.60, as Marnie Luke finished second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:10.74.  Maggie Hansvick also added a top three finish, taking third in the 200 breaststroke with an NCAA B cut time of 2:26.04.

Other top five finishers included Brittani Matzke and Sara Hund.  Matzke was the top Gustavus diver on Saturday, taking fourth place in the one-meter with a score of 363.00.  Hund finished in fifth place in the 100 freestyle, touching the wall in 53.36.

The Gustavus 400 freestyle relay team of Carrie Gundersen, Dajana Vidovic, Jonna Berry, and Sarah Hund capped off the MIAC Championships with a first place finish in an NCAA B qualifying time of 3:30.36.
