John Haught teaches in the Theology Department at Georgetown University.

With a focus on science and religion, this year’s Herbert and Mary Jane Lefler Lecture will bring theologian Dr. John F. Haught to Gustavus Adolphus College on Sept. 26-27.

Haught will visit several Gustavus classes during his two-day stay. His lecture, titled “Evolution and Faith: What is at Stake,” will take place from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Sept. 26 in Alumni Hall, located on the upper level of the O.J. Johnson Student Union.

Haught is the Landegger Distinguished Professor of Theology at Georgetown University and is one of the nation’s leading experts on the creation versus evolution debate, according to Gustavus professor of religion Darrell Jodock.

“Dr. Haught is in conversation with many of the leading figures on this important and interesting topic,” Jodock said. “He has spent his life teaching undergraduate students so he organizes and presents his information in a way that is very clear.”

Haught is the author of several books on the topic including, Deeper Than Darwin: The Prospect for Religion in the Age of Evolution, God After Darwin: A Theology of Evolution, and Responses to 101 Questions on God and Evolution. This will not be Haught’s first visit to Gustavus, as he spoke at both the 2003 and 2005 Nobel Conferences.
