Gustavus Adolphus College is excited to announce a $3.7 million cash gift to fund scholarships for top-tier students. This gift will allocate over $500,000 per year for the next seven years to create two new scholarship programs.

Both four-year scholarship programs are already being implemented and will be offered to selected members of the incoming Class of 2021.

The Trustee Scholarship will become the highest academic scholarship that the College offers, providing an award beyond the Gustavus President’s Scholarship. Incoming students who are considered for the Trustee Scholarship will typically have cumulative high school grade point averages of 3.9 or above and an average composite ACT score of 32-36.

“The implementation of the new Trustee Scholarship will have a positive impact on the academic profile of the College and underscore our commitment to the highest standards of academic excellence,” Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Kirk Carlson ’95 said. “These talented students will be greeted on campus with a rigorous, supportive learning community.”

The second program, the Promise Scholarship, will support gifted students who may not otherwise be able to afford a Gustavus education. By supplementing other financial awards, the scholarship will guarantee full tuition coverage and support the College’s commitment to students with financial need.

“The anonymous donors have a deep history with the College and a long-term investment in its mission,” Gustavus President Rebecca Bergman said. “They are committed to academic excellence and believe in the unique opportunities that Gustavus provides to its students. We are deeply grateful for their generosity and support.”

This gift is the third multimillion-dollar commitment from the Board of Trustees in the past month. It provides momentum for the new Gustavus Acts Strategic Plan by explicitly supporting the goals of broadening the Gustavus community, delivering a distinctive liberal arts education, and ensuring financial sustainability. The College expects that this major stimulus will leverage additional endowments to support the scholarships permanently.
