Gustavus Adolphus College senior Alex Zupan has been named a USA Today All-USA College Academic All-Star. In addition to being one of 60 students in the nation named to this list, Zupan was also recently honored with a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Postgraduate Scholarship. Zupan is also the 2006-07 Presser Scholar, given annually to a Gustavus music major.

“It was a pretty big honor to have my name appear in the USA Today,” Zupan said. “To see my name up there with all of these people who are doing amazing things was great.” Zupan is an Honors Mathematics and Honors Music double major from Monona, Wisconsin.

The Academic All-Stars Team is selected based on excellence in academics, activities, and leadership. NCAA Postgraduate Scholars are chosen from throughout the nation and are awarded a $7,500 scholarship; Zupan is one of only 58 students chosen this year.

Zupan will seek a Ph.D. in Pure Mathematics after graduating from Gustavus this spring. Academically, Zupan has a 4.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Zupan has been involved in a vast array of extra-curricular activities during his time at Gustavus, including track and field, cross country, handbell choir, St. Ansgar’s Men’s Choir, and Choir of Christ Chapel. He is also a skilled pianist who has been playing since the age of seven.
