Commencement Exercises May 29 at Gustavus Adolphus College Posted on May 25th, 2005 by

At 2 p.m. Sunday, May 29, 584 seniors will receive bachelor of arts degrees from Gustavus Adolphus College during commencement exercises on Hollingsworth Stadium (Lund Center for Physical Education and Health if inclement weather).

The graduates will receive their diplomas from the faculty chair in their respective majors, a tradition that began in 1973.

Graduating seniors Andrew Brown, an English major from Coon Rapids, Joshua Hauser, a communication studies major from Maple Grove, and Kari DenOtter, a communication studies and political science major from Sioux Falls, have been selected to deliver the senior addresses.

Andrew Bennett, an English major from Hastings, Neb., will be presented the R. John Van Deusen Award in recognition of his having attained a degree through unusual perseverance, courage, and effort in dealing with significant physical challenges. R. John Van Deusen, 1961 Gustavus graduate, overcame incredible odds for over a decade, battling dystonia, a rare neuromuscular disorder.

Al Annexstad, president and CEO of Federated Insurance Companies of Owatonna, Minn., and a member of the Board of Trustees, will receive an honorary doctor of humane letters degree recognizing his work with at-risk youth and the scholarship fund his foundation has established at Gustavus to help some of those youth earn a college degree.
